　　影片依然是西部片的套路，韦恩再次扮演典型的西部英雄，然而此次的角色比以往的都更成熟，因而使他在拍了一系列西部片以后，终于在62岁高龄赢得了奥斯卡最佳男主角的殊荣。1975年推出续集《莽龙怒》（Rooster Cogburn，又译《独眼龙江湖仗义》），由泼辣强悍的老牌女星凯瑟琳·赫本配戏，不料两个加起来超过一百岁的老人竟然擦出火花，使这部斗气冤家式的喜剧别具妙趣。韦恩在片中继续饰演独眼龙警长，受雇追踪一群无法无天的歹徒。赫本则是为父报仇的老处女，她也在追寻同一帮坏蛋。两人凑在一起之后用什么方式来对抗强敌人呢？这正是本片的主要趣味所在。虽然剧情有点单薄。原片于1978年重拍。
